In this research update, WallStreet Research looked at Pressure BioSciences, Inc., a Boston-based laboratory tools company that had just launched a much improved second-generation product aimed at the biological sample preparation market, where it already had about 150 clients, many of them key opinion leaders.

The sample preparation market, made up of tens of thousands of laboratories, relies mostly on mechanical or chemical methods that can contaminate or break down samples. Pressure BioSciences instead uses its patented Pressure Cycling Technology (PCT), which applies calculated amounts of pressure to break down cellular structures and release biomarkers, giving more control and accuracy for drug, vaccine and cancer studies. Its Barocycler instruments had been adopted by research facilities but were held back because they could not accept standard disposable microwell strips. The High Throughput Barocycler launched in June 2014, and the Barozyme HT48 system, were designed to solve that. The Company reported product and service sales up 29% to $1,350,150 in 2014.
