Rayton, headquartered in Los Angeles and incorporated in Delaware in 2013 as Rayton Solar, Inc., is a development-stage manufacturer of low-cost, ultra-thin Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) wafers for the semiconductor industry, having transitioned from solar energy. GaAs wafers are an emerging foundation for high-speed, high-power electronics used in automotive, aerospace, 5G, LED and solar applications, but carry much higher materials costs than silicon.

Rayton’s patented, particle accelerator-based ion implantation technology, co-engineered with Phoenix Nuclear Labs, LLC of Wisconsin, uses a high-current proton accelerator to slice semiconductor wafers to just 2 microns thick, compared with norms often over 200 microns, sharply reducing materials waste. The process was awarded two patents in 2016 and was featured by outlets including Forbes and Fast Company. At the time of the report, Rayton had raised $8.2 million to date and was running a Regulation Crowdfunding campaign to raise up to $1.07 million for beta-phase production of GaAs wafer samples.
